As before, quite enlightening. Thank you. I do wish, however, that the robot reader be able to apply inflection to the reading. Perhaps you might know the path that this request should be forwarded to.

I am also a reader of Heather Cox Richardson and Robert Hubbell. I am following you because of your long-range look at things. You do not have to provide that service for me to continue to read your column. I was hoping that as a contributor, you might know haw to forward such a request to the platform itself. Thanks for your reply.

A side of me wants to label those who still support Donald Trump after the January 6th events as extremists because that is precisely what they are. Trump is authoritarian and could not care about democracy or the constitution; he called for the Constitution's termination in December 2022. There should be no debate surrounding Jan 6th, the only punishment for attempted sedition of the United States government. If the United States wants to call itself a country of laws, then DT should be held accountable and locked up for the rest of his life at a minimum.

Yet another side of me knows there is a difference between being right and being effective. While accountability is #1, and Trump and those who attempted a coup on Jan 6th should be held accountable, they are only a tiny percentage of the Trump base. The Trump base was created from populist rhetoric that thrives from people feeling like political outsiders. Persecuting Trump recklessly will lead to further isolation of the base and might turn Trump into a martyr.

This is the only theory I have as to why it’s taken so damn long for any legal action to happen. Patience is critical, and this is arguably one of the most important legal cases in United States history, so threading the needle on this case will be arduous. I hope for the sake of our country that accountability will eventually follow these actions.
