The origin story of the name "Bluetooth" and the logo used for that technology is a fascinating tale, connecting Viking history, the English civil war, and a curious saga of scattered royal bones.
If only our modern day leaders were forced to adapt a nom de guerre our media would be much more interesting. "Honey - guess what Joe the Aged said about Orange Donald." Great read!
In Brians’ recent article “The Evolution of Stupidity (and Octopus Intelligence)” he discussed the trick that has allowed humans to collectively become the world’s smartest species – the transfer of knowledge from our brains to external repositories which can be shared. Of the millions of discoveries made this way take the brain of Albert Einstein – he published a paper in 1917 that mathematically determined that light could be generated by stimulated emission (as opposed to the spontaneous emission created by an incandescent light bulb). Forty years later a physics student Gordon Gould worked out how to make light by stimulated emission, he had invented the laser which, amongst many other things, made fibre optic cables (the backbone of the internet) a reality. Everything you do matters.
bravo, brian! excellent piece. thank you. ur funny, commenting on how boring today's royal names have become. the history you show us so interesting, informative. and the bringing together of two kingdoms is nice. i mean to say, that idea makes me wish we had more peace in our world. now. and always. keep going. we follow. j.
I knew about Harald Bluetooth (my husband's family was Norwegian and VERY big on Haralds on both sides) and about the actual meaning of Cnut'd demonstration. But I didn't know about the Mixed Bones. That is a name looking for a band. Mixed Bones and the Foxes. Lovely read, letting your humor shine.

The January 6th insurrectionists may have a new defense, “we’re just following Cromwell’s historical precedent.”
